About 400 public primary school teachers from different parts of the country have received training in literacy skills, numeracy skills and early childhood development.
This special training activity emanats from the Professional Development Programme being organised for teachers by Longman Nigeria Plc and Pearson Foundation. The teachers attended a series of workshops in Lagos, Ibadan and Abuja where they were trained by facilitators drawn from a pool of experts in English Language Teaching (ELT), Numeracy and ECD.
While 176 teachers from Lagos and Oyo States participated in this year's edition of the training programme, 118 teachers were trained in Lagos last year while 100 teachers attended the training programme in Abuja, also last year.
The Professional Development Programme for teachers is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the two firms to enhance the performance of Nigerian students by upgrading the skills of their teachers. To participate in the programme, teachers are usually nominated by the State Ministry of Education through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
